Nuclear Medicine Technologist

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist, as an integral part of the Medical Imaging Team, performs nuclear medicine procedures, within departmental guidelines, according to the NMT scope of practice and Mediclinic City Hospital policies.

Requirements
Requirements – Licensing & Education:
•A Bachelors degree in Radiology/Medical Imaging/ Nuclear Medicine or a Higher Diploma course in Radiology (minimum three years duration) from an accredited educational institution, college or university
•A post- graduate course of study/qualification in the specialty of Nuclear Medicine
•A current license, and registration, or certificate to practice as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist from country of origin (as applicable) and country of education
•Current registration as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
•Successful completion of the national board exams in country of training
•Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate
Skills/Abilities/Experience Required:
•A minimum of 2 years postgraduate experience working as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist
•Demonstrated competence in all Nuclear Medicine procedures
•Appropriate experience and competence in assisting the Consultant in all aspects of Nuclear Medicine, including managing the care of both adult and paediatric patients.
•Good knowledge of, and competence with, Gamma Camera and SPECT/CT scans
•Manual dexterity and physical endurance.
•Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, nurses, doctors and other hospital staff.
•Computer literate with intermediate knowledge of MS Office
•Knowledge of, and working background on, RIS/PACS
•Fluent in written and spoken English; Arabic would be an advantage
•Organized and able to understand processes and procedures
•Able to work in a multidisciplinary team
•Able to prioritize tasks and manage own workload
•Able to work in a multicultural environment
•Good interpersonal skills
Key Outputs
Key Responsibilities of the Role: 

•Perform routine nuclear medicine procedures unaided and within guidelines as set out by department policies and procedures 


•Assist in performing specific radiological / nuclear medicine procedures under the supervision of more senior staff, or the Nuclear Medicine Specialist
•Assess patients’ clinical requirements to determine the appropriate radiographic techniques to be used
•Perform a range of nuclear medicine examinations on patients to produce high-quality images
•Provide support and reassurance to patients, taking into account their physical and psychological needs
•Position patients safely for examinations and, if necessary, adapt standard techniques depending on medical conditions associated with disability, illness, or trauma.
•Record imaging identification and patient documentation quickly and accurately while observing protocols
•Ensure that patients, relatives, and staff are protected from unnecessary hazards due to ionizing radiation
•Maintain good knowledge of, and competence with, Gamma Camera and SPECT/CT scans
•Observe all health and safety policies and procedures pertaining to the Department and the Hospital
•Undertake quality control checks of nuclear machines and associated equipment, and contribute to the quality assurance and audit initiatives
•Ensure that equipment is regularly checked for malfunctions and report any faults
•Report incidents of injury to self or others according to department procedures
•Maintain patient records and confidentiality in accordance with Hospital policies and statutory regulations
•Archive patient data/films as per department protocols
•Participate in Department on-call rota as per the demands of the Radiology Service
•Contribute to team initiatives and improvements
•Fulfill professional requirements for continuing maintenance of competence in all aspects of Nuclear Medicine as a Technologist
•Participate in activities and opportunities to promote the Department's service
•Carry out other assigned duties within the appropriate scope of knowledge, skills and abilities of the position.
•Contribute towards Quality Improvement and Infection Control Standards as per the policies of the hospital.
•Ensure the delivery of a high standard of patient care.
